HISTORY of the PBA

Text Box: Professional Bowling Tour
The Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) was established in 1958. The PBA was formed to promote the status of the qualified bowler to the rank of professional and to promote bowling to the status of a major sport.
When the PBA was founded, there were only 33 members. Today, that number has grown to almost 3,500. Additionally, there are 700 members on the PBA senior tour.

Bowling goes on Television
This new tour grabbed the attention of American bowlers and continued to grow every year. In the 1950’s NBC began to air coverage of various bowling tournaments. Although somewhat sporadic, this national exposure of the sport helped bowling reach its greatest popularity.
In 1961, ABC became the first network to telecast regularly scheduled matches of the Pro Bowlers Association.

The PBA moves to a new level
In March 2000, a trio of high-tech entrepreneurs (and former Microsoft executives) purchased the PBA tour in hopes of making it the next global emerging sport and creating additional opportunities for its members.
In 2001, the PBA signed an exclusive three-year deal with ESPN. Through this exposure, the PBA tour is enjoying its greatest popularity in the last two decades.

Text Box: Let Goin’ Postal Ship Your Bowling Equipment to Vegas
Goin’ Postal is proud to support our local bowlers.  In appreciation to all who have visited us at 6461 S. Western, just a half mile south of Western Bowl, we are offering a special package for those who are traveling to Las Vegas to bowl in the 106th USBC Open Championship tournament.  Why drag your balls around through the airports, pay extra baggage fees and/or overweight fees, and then have your bags destroyed by the airlines?  Goin’ Postal is offering bowlers a 20% shipping discount on sending your equipment to Las Vegas round trip.  Our package includes shipping your equipment to your hotel in a box, a roll of packing tape to secure your box for the return trip, and a prepaid return shipping label straight to your house.  No worries and no hassles.  When you are done bowling, all you will have to do is tape your box with the same equipment that you sent, apply the return shipping label over the existing label, and deliver the box to the hotel department which handles shipping services (usually Guest Services).  Goin’ Postal is not responsible for any additional handling fees that may be charged by your hotel, so please check rates to eliminate any surprises.  To avoid express shipping fees, please ship your equipment 4 to 5 days before you are scheduled to bowl.  If you have any questions, please come by or call us at 358-8803.  Watch for flyers coming out soon at both bowling centers for more information.
